The Shore Coaches meet did not go as we had hoped but it was the first 5k race of the season for the team . . . still, there definitely were some highlights:
Shore Coaches:
In the Freshman Race, both Colin Dickinson and Evan Amato medaled with Colin in 20th and Evan in 28th in a field of 216! Trayce Slumsky and Dylan Weiner finished close behind in 32nd and 40th to give us 4 in the top 40!
🚨 Interview with Frosh Phenom, Jack Tindall 🚨
In the Varsity A Race, the highlight was definitely the performance of freshman, Jack Tindall, who lit up the Holmdel course! Jack’s time of 15:55 knocked twenty seconds off the old freshman record set by Craig Forys in 2003! It was also 44 seconds faster than the previous Cherokee freshman record of 16:39 set last year by Ben Realley (who recorded a one-second PR of 16:38 for ninth). The rest of the varsity seven were struggling to find their rhythm and will undoubtedly run much faster when they return to Holmdel in November! Still, the team managed to finish second behind the 2023 State Group 4 Champs, Westfield!
The JV Race saw some very good peformances from the team! Tate Midora ran an aggressive race and finished second in the field of 204 with a sizable Holmdel PR of 17:34! Anthony DiBattista - 4th, Leo Vyvyan - 6th, Gavin Danielewicz - 12th and Max Harada - 30th gave us a team score of 54, good enough for a twenty point victory over runner-up, North Hunterdon!
Results from Shore Coaches
South Jersey Open:
The top 10 Varsity runners took this meet off to train (double threshold day!). The next group did a great job of dominating the JV competition at Dream. Park, placing six runners in the top nine to win the race with a low score of 16 points!
Leo Vyvyan continued his outstanding season with a 26-second victory over teammate, Gavin Danielewicz. Leo’s winning time of 17:27 was a 45-second course PR! Behind Leo and Gavin, Bruce Novoa - 5th, Max Harada - 6th, Carlo Brown - 8th, and Liam Daimler - 9th, all ran well, with a special shout out to Carlo who managed to run that well in his first-ever cross country race! In addition to those six, for good measure, we also had two other runners among the top 16 in the field of 167: freshmen - Evan Amato - 12th and Trayce Slumsky - 16th!
Next up, the team will travel to Millcreek Park in Willingboro on Friday for the Burlington County Championship Meet!
Fundraising Goals
It is the mission of 4xAlumni to support the current crop of track and field and cross country athletes.
We are focusing on 5 major areas that we feel, with the support of the coaches, are important for this generation of student-athletes:
Offset or completely cover the cost of post-season events not sponsored by the school. This includes National Meets (cross country, indoor and outdoor track) and invitationals (Oregon, etc).
Award scholarships for deserving seniors.
Provide State Champions and School Record holders with gifts.
Support families with athletes who would like to attend a cross country camp but cannot afford it.
Provide funding for athletes needing physiotherapy who cannot afford it.
We currently only have the availability to collect funds via Venmo, but we are actively seeking ways to collect via credit card, Zelle, PayPal, and other forms to accommodate the ecosystem in 2024.
During the months of September, October and November, we will be collecting funds that will directly contribute to funding for cross country post-season meets. Please consider donating to help fund our scholarship money.
