Hello to all of our new subscribers. Thanks for joining us and to those of you who have been with us for a while, you might notice something a little different.
The Alumni group has decided on a rebrand, away from 4xAlumni and toward a more unified (and easier to recognize) brand, Cherokee XCTF Alumni Association.
We look forward to sharing our passion for Cherokee XC and TF with you through newsletters, events [Save the Date(s)] for December 26th or December 27th, and much more.
Our mission is simple: help Cherokee XC & TF by providing support for needs that aren’t met through the school or the booster club. We work hand in hand with the coaches, admin, booster parents, and the team to fill in the gaps needed by the team.
Want to donate? We gladly accept donations that go directly to supporting the entire program.
Patience, Please!
We are patiently awaiting a recap from coach Jarvis, but I suppose he has a good reason for his delay.
Coach Jarvis was just named Cherokee’s Teacher of the Year. Who knew that the best team in South Jersey could also have the best teacher in the building?
Congrats, coach Jar!
Meet of Champions Recap
You can watch the boys race here from MileSplit.
The Cherokee Boys Cross Country Team completed the “regular season” on Saturday, running to a third place finish at the New Jersey State Meet of Champions at Holmdel Park. After three very tough races in a row, rising to the occasion took a lot of focus and determination from this team!
Freshman, Jack Tindall, was attempting to return to form after a post-sectional illness that sapped his energy for the Group Meet and still had him not feeling 100%. On top of that, the metatarsal tendon injury that had been plaguing him all season was becoming more of a problem.
Despite these obstacles, Jack (as always) came in determined to get the most out of himself and he performed admirably, finishing 15th in a field of 160 with a time 27 seconds faster than last week! It would have been a freshman record on the course had he not already set the record with a faster time at Shore Coaches! He now has the two fastest times ever by a freshman at Holmdel.
Fifteen seconds after Jack finished, sophomore, Ben Realley, crossed the line in 26th place. While Ben’s time was slightly off what he ran at the Group Meet, it was still a nice effort and kept us in the mix for a podium finish. Ben has been super consistent and dependable all year, so his performance at MOCs was no surprise.
Behind Ben, junior, Logan Bromley overcame a poor start and moved up continually over the last two miles to finish in 34th place. He passed 29 runners over the last mile of the race! Logan was followed closely by seniors, Liam Tindall, in 41st and Enzo Corona in 43rd. Liam and Enzo have been focused and determined all season and, even in races that were not going their way, they never gave up! They have been indispensable to the success of the team!
For good measure, sixth and seventh men, sophomore, Sean Sooy, and senior, Ben Weiner, were both across the line soon after Enzo. Other than CBA, Sean and Ben were faster than any other team’s six and seven runners. Our seven-man spread of just 52 seconds was also the second-best on the day, behind only CBA.
When the scores were announced, we were in third place, with Haddonfield taking second behind (yes, you guessed it!) CBA. While we were a little disappointed to lose to a South Jersey team, we were satisfied that, as always, this group of athletes competed and never gave up! It was another good team race and a nice way to end the regular season. Next, the boys will compete in the Nike Northeast Regional Championships on November 23rd in New York, as the Evesham Harriers Club Team!
Fundraising Goals
It is the mission of the Cherokee XCTF Alumni Association to support the current crop of track and field and cross country athletes.
We are focusing on 5 major areas that we feel, with the support of the coaches, are important for this generation of student-athletes:
Offset or completely cover the cost of post-season events not sponsored by the school. This includes National Meets (cross country, indoor and outdoor track) and invitationals (Oregon, etc).
Award scholarships for deserving seniors.
Provide State Champions and School Record holders with gifts.
Support families with athletes who would like to attend a cross country camp but cannot afford it.
Provide funding for athletes needing physiotherapy who cannot afford it.
We currently only have the availability to collect funds via Venmo, but we are actively seeking ways to collect via credit card, Zelle, PayPal, and other forms to accommodate the ecosystem in 2024.
During the months of September, October and November, we will be collecting funds that will directly contribute to funding for cross country post-season meets. Please consider donating to help fund our scholarship money.
